Create with the Oracle Report Builder stylish, smart-looking database reports. The flexible report editor can define group and page headers as well as group and page footers and even calculation fields are available to accomplish complex database reports.

Along with the flexible database client of Oracle Open Office it is possible to create database reports from HSQL, Oracle, or almost any other database type.

The Oracle Report Builder uses the Pentaho Reporting Flow Engine of Pentaho BI.

My old report from OO3.3 works just fine, just try it out....

Hello,
I am using AOO4.1.5 under Windows 7 and specifically Oracle-Report-Builder.oxt

I know, it's a bit late as opposed to this previous message. But I think it is still interesting to know what I did to make it work. I have been in panic thinking I would lose hours of work on my database.

At first I installed the latest OOO version 4.1.5. As far as my macros were concerned, everything just worked fine, but i realized a bit later that my reports could no longer work.

I have done many searches and manipulations I don't really want to explain here to bother you. Instead, I'll explain what I did last:

1) I have uninstalled AOO4.1.5 completely.
2) I have removed all directories being used by OpenOffice in the main directories but also under USERS
3) I have reinstalled latest JAVA programs
4) I restarded my PC
5) I reinstalled AOO4.1.5 and all my extensions (OXT)
6) Due to "basic" errors because I use Java calls I reinserted the name of the DB in AOO DB options under database paths

Ok, all this is a shortcut to what I really experienced: BUT IT WORKS.

I wondered if this information could still help one of you folks !!

Due to License incompatibilities, the extension no more developed.

The Apache OpenOffice 3.4 can work with ORB 1.2.1rev2, excluding charts. The charts graphical layer is changed in in AOO 3.4 and not changes in report builder, as consequence the reports with charts no more runs. It gives error "Failed to parse report."

The code was transferd to AOO project, if a volunteer want to continue development of extension, please connect the AOO project at mailing list: ooo-dev at incubator.apache.org

i need this sofware

thank you

When attempting to Add Report Builder to OpenOffice from Tools>Extensions and then pressing Add I am taken to my Documents load panel and asked to enter a name, presumably Oracle Report Builder, but on entering this (Documents) and pressing Open, I get an error message "No such file exists" Can you help, please? mckeagj@yahoo.com

Overall the usage is poor, does not seem to be tested very well.

Got problems with Java, double Updates, and usage at all.

It seems that this extension has only been tested in some very restricted environment, please add for which environments it should work.

On the other hand, it could only become better.

Hi,
OpenOffice is a great product, I reckon it's way better than some expensive ones. Some extensions are at the same level, some not. Oracle Report Builder is just not stable enough. I give you an example:

One OpenOffice base contains several tables. I used the wizard to create a report (the simplest one, all columns from the table , i.e. 5 columns, no sort, no group, no filter...). It works! Brilliant I thought. So I tried to make one a bit more complex... Report is just an empty window.. Ok, let's go back to basic... I Tried again a simple report of the table, the same kind of report I've done before that worked. Oups... empty again... ok, let's do exactly the same report than the first try, same table, same columns, no sort, no group, no filter... well... this time, it did not work, empty again....

I tried plenty of stuff, reinstall the extension, quit and restart, change parameters... No, it's just unstable, so unstable I just can't use it. I uninstalled it. Maybe I'll try it again in a couple of months when a new release will come, or not...

the same Problem as the last time I updated the Sun Report Builder, I not only had to quit the base application, I have to shut down OOo quicklancher!

I installed Oracle Report Builder in German OOo 3.2.1 but there are no menus e.g. File, Edit ... and no tool icons with this application.

Bonjour,

Merci.
Salutations.

Is there a method to use Calc Add-on functions in the reports? I've got a question about Sun Report Builder and my Calc Add-on, Numbertext. (Numbertext gives functions for spelling out numbers and money amounts in native languages, and it is accessible in OpenOffice.org extensions by service FunctionAccess of UNO or by Numbertext Java jar, see http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/numbertext and http://www.numbertext.org.) Thanks, László

Hello!

You can't install this version on Ubuntu 10.04. Please uninstall this version (if installed) an install the Sun-Report-Builder from the Ubuntu-repository!

-just write this in your terminal:
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-report-builder

-or use Synaptic an search for:
openoffice.org-report-builder
and install it....

Now it works!

I hope this will help anybody

krebsi83

This terminal command also works under UBUNTU 10.10

Many thanks for your recommandation.

It works on a 32 bit computer, but Base hangs after installing the openoffice.org-report-builder on a 64 bit Ubuntu 10.4!

Any idea why?

I had no trouble installing SRB on WinXP; however on Ubuntu 10.4, as already reported, SRB gets installed but afterwards, not only is SRB non-functional, but original report generation is impossible, too.

In addition, on WinXP I got several crashes when trying to save changes. In the meanwhile I happened to read other OO forums and think it has to do with compression, but still, the time to save seems incredibly long.

Bernhard

Easy to use and more flexible than the Wizard.
Installation was straight forward on XP SP3 / openoffice.org 3.2.0.

Using Ubuntu Studio 64 v10.04, OpenOffice 3.2
This report builder doesn't work at all. It just freezes everything totally, and completely removes any ability to make any reports of any kind.

jrvz

It works for me. It gets a bit twitchy at times, but after a while it gets easier. (I copied the db a lot as backup).

I am having difficulty with the documentation, especially as regards the use of expressions & functions.

Check the Java in Preferences - it must be on

hi, i am new in ubuntu, and this extensions don't works, please help me. THANKS! :)

Many question on forum asked what to do when no menu and toolbars.
It is could happen after installation of SRB, when you start using SRB without restart OOo.

Always restart OOo (quit quick starter, too) after SRB insatllation, before

Under Vista (and Ubuntu 8.10) and with OOo 3 (in french version), when you close a report by cliquing the "x", you quit the application too. So the application crashes. Under Vista, I have to close by the menu to avoid this bug. Under Ubuntu 8.10, downloaded from this website- this bug existes when you close by this 2 ways (the "x" or the menu).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

sorry, double post

I just wonder what is new to this release, the source (CVS-repository) seems to be untouched since abt. 2 years.

Martin

The CVS link is badly out of date, OpenOffice has been using Mercurial (hg) for a while now. Try browsing here instead: http://hg.services.openoffice.org/

Bonjour,

I'm having the same problem as daRal. I'm on OO 3.2.0 Build 9483.

This extension is working as promised now. I don't know what was wrong earlier.

Having read the other comments I thought I'd give it a go anyway ... waste of time. Have a Mac OS X 10.6.2. Installed the extension and then both the report builder and report wizard would both just give me an Add Field window (appeared and disappeared) with one field in it. Nothing to do with report building at all. So sadly disabled the extension and now I only have the wizard to play with. Oh well ... all I want to do is take out the header and add some fields as titles to my reports ... :(

I figured I'd try installing Sun Report Builder anyway. Sure enough, just as so many others have reported, the extension simply doesn't work. Very disappointing!

The moment I tried to run it, it simply died. It provides a second task to Create Report in Design Mode. Clicking that option, however, merely pops up a small window (presumably for selecting fields from a table), but the window then disappears instantly. The extension also seemed to screw up the Use Wizard to Create Report task. The only way to make OO base work again is to disable the extension. So I said "to heck with it" and removed the extension entirely.

Anyone have any ideas on another way to go about creating more advanced reporting functions, such as totaling a numeric field?

Hello,

I have OO 3.3.1 build 9420, Sun Java 1.6.1-17, and Report Builder 1.1.0 running in Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP3

When I start "create report in design view", I get a small dialog "add Field" which immediately disappears. The interface as shown in the documentation never appears. I can send screen shots, if that will help.

I tried a similar setup on a MacBook running OSX 10.5.8 and got a similar result.

Would someone please send me a test database that has a sample report built with report builder.

Thanks,

Report builder turned out to be a nightmare for me.
I'm working with open Source OS and Apps for a decade now with quite positive experience. OO writer and calc are really fine.
But OO base turned out to be heavily disappointing.
Was expecting kind of features M$ Access had 10 Jears ago and doing a "quick and dirty" data reorganisation project with it. Far away!
Sad enough that it took me hours to find that a reasonable record generator needs to be plugged as extension.
But since I did this I spent more time in crash recovery than in real work:-((

Behaviour might be related to this posts:
https://lists.launchpad.net/openjdk/msg01738.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/dba-bugs@openoffice.org/msg32609.html
Crashes of Repord Builder and OO when moving items and when saving reopened reports.
However, I did not come to the point to reproduce the problem(s). Every time after a crash I had to start from scratch.
I would rate maturity between late alpha and early beta, compared to usual open source experience.
I'll stop fiddling with OO Base, throw my data to a MySQL database and do reporting with php scripts, where I know what I do and what my machine is going to do.

In case sbdy tries to follow the issue, I'll give details here.

System Details:
OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 OOO310m21 (Build:9319) ... "von Novell erstellt" ... Build 3.1.1.5
Report builder: Download from today, 1.1.0
Linux version 2.6.25.18-0.2-debug (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision 135036] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2008-10-21 16:30:26 +0200
SuSE 11.0
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+
data stored on a nsf volume

But since similar problems are reported from Windows platforms as well, I don't think it is a system related issue.

We use OpenOffice 3.1 and WinXP. The server is MS Windows Server 2003.

The technician, as Administrator, has installed Sun Report Builder 1.1.0 on all the 22 computers in the school's lab. However, when the students log on they do not see 'Create Report in Design View...' in Base. They only see 'Use Wizard to Create Report...".

When I log on as Administrator I see it.

What do we have to do for the students to see the report builder? They do IGCSE ICT and need the report builder.

Regards,

Jan Nordgreen

after installing Sun Report Builder 1.1.0 "nur für mich" I got the extra "Bericht in Entwurfsansicht erstellen" but only a small window appear and disappear verry quickly.

Even worse clicking on "Bericht unter Verwendung des Assistenten erstellen" results in "Feld hinzufügen: Erste_Tabelle_meiner_Datenbank" without the chance to select any other table then the (alphabetic) first of my database. Regardless what I then tried to do, I didn't get any further, no writer document opens, nothing. Only closing the "Feld hinzufügen: Erste_Tabelle_meiner_Datenbank" window is possible.

Exit Base and restart didn't help but after closing the oOo quick launcher too, it looks quite hopeful for me.

Open Office 3.1.1 / Sun Report Builder 1.1.0
Opensuse 11.1 & Windows XP
When I go to Tools/Options/Appearance and scroll down to the bottom of the list and get the options for Report Builder, the items are all in Chinese (or Japanese?). In Windows the items are just lines of squares but in Linux the oriental characters show. (Does download look at my IP address and mix up .ca with .cn... I am in Canada)?

Hi,
RB 1.1.0 + OO 3.1.1
Creating a new report with group and sort, I get

Request can be executed without the report builder
Any Idea?
Thanks

Reading differents forums, I discovered that sub-queries can't contains ORDER BY clause, I removed it from the request
and it works better but in SRB having a group:

"nomAdherent"
"prenomAdherent",
"ID" ( primary key)
"date"
The report is ordered by "ID" and "date" and not concat of the 4 fields .

Which seems strange is that reports created with previous version , on request containing an ORDER BY clause are still working.

I have tried Sun Report Builder ever since OpenOffice 2.4. I seldom got it to work in 2.4 as it mostly froze.
I gave it a new chance in 3.0 and 3.1. Base still not stable with Sun Report Builder. (Or should we call it "Sun Crash Producer")
So, this is the third time I throw it out of my system, and this time it'll be permanent.

Running WinXP Pro with SP3 and Java 1.6.0_13 with OOo 3.1 Norwegian.

works fine with me!

thanks for this one.

I upgraded ti ooo 3.1 recently and got Report Builder 1.1. At least with a database created with ooo 3.01 the Report Builder does not work :((
properly. Klicking on "create report ..." brings up the error message "no valid report template available". I checked the path settings, no improvement. When I disable the Report Builder, everything works fine with the Assistant. Surprisingly, there is no option to create reports in layout mode then anymore...

Any suggestions anybody?

Installed OOo 3.1 and Sun Report Report Builder 1.1 and a problem still exists in displaying phone number format in reports. Phone number field is formatted (000) 000-0000 but is displayed as (0000000000 in reports.

I have Open Office 3.0.1 installed on my laptop and I went about downloading this Sun Report extension. When I elect to run the extension the Extension Manager appears to install the extension but then it generates an error

"Error: The Status of the Extension is Unknown"

I tried uninstalling & reinstalling Open Office 3.0.1 and the Extension again and I still received the same error. My friend has the same setup as I do and the extension works fine on his machine so now I am even more baffled.

Can you please advise me on what steps to take?

Thanks a mill,
Sheila

can u tell me how to install the extension

I edited description.xml and rezipped the oxt file, but I keep getting the same error: can't install because dependencies not fulfilled, and then it puts the version number I put in the xml file. What version number am I supposed to match for OpenOffice.org 3.1.0 OOO310m11 (Build:9399)?

This beta is otherwise working beautifully, so I'm confident to try Sun Report Builder. I just need it to stop refusing to install because of the version#. Someone tell me how to do that.

doh! I just deleted the "dependencies" section in the XML file, and it passed.

There will be a SunReportBuilder 1.1 release coming with the OpenOffice.org 3.1 release. Installation will then go smoothless.

When I go into Reports I cannot launch the Wizard or the creator at all untill I disable the Sun Report Builder and restart the app.

EDIT: launched open office from the command line and enabled sun report builder and got this when I clicked on the wizard:
com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException:

Got nothing when I clicked on the design view.

This extension works fine with Kubuntu8.04 and ooo3 but in windows xp all you get is the design view mode whether you select create report in design or use wizard to create report.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hello,

I have installed the report builder and am somewhat satisfied with it. The main irritant is the placement of the Report Header/Footer. When you ask to insert them they are placed above and below the Detail section and there is no way to move them. This structures the report from top to bottom as: Page Header, Report Header, Detail, Report Footer, Page Footer. The Report Header/Footer and Page Header/Footer function as labeled; they are just in the wrong place on the page. The developers at Sun are aware of this issue and have chosen to not fix it. Even though the report builder functions reasonably well I am somewhat put off by the fact that Sun refuses to address a functionality issue that has been presented by more than one user.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.
