Upload but not download ODS/XLS from GoogleDocs
Hi,
I'm using Oo 2.4.1, with Java (JRE) 1.0.6_06, running on Ubuntu 8.04.
I can upload and download text documents (odt) to/from GoogleDocs but I can only upload spreadsheets documents (ods).
Both text and spreadsheets docs are listed in "Document Title" but for ods and xls files "Open" and "Open Via Browser" buttons are disabled.
Also, I uploaded a spreadsheet but when I opened it on browser (Firefox 3.0.1) I saw that the graphics (plots) were lost.
Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help. All the best.
Antonio
It's normal
Downloading spreadsheets from Google Docs isn't supported by Google Docs [they also don't support downloading of documents and presentations, but it's possible to workaround this problem], and because of this AddOn cannot do it [technically to download spreadsheets AddOn would need to pretend browser what may break Google Terms Of Service, so I decided don't try it.]
Google Docs and Zoho may do some harmful things to stored documents. They need to convert documents from it's original format to some theirs format, and again during export to client they need to make conversion from theirs inside format to requested format. It looks that some parts of documents may be lost in this process.
Documents stored on WebDAV servers are always identical as those send to server [assuming no one changed them in the meantime ;-)]
Thanks Przemyslaw
Thanks Przemyslaw for your explanation and congratulations for you work.
Best regards,
Antônio
Ubuntu on PPC can't run Sun-jre6? Am I right? Any workarounds?
I'm really keen on this extension but I can't get it to load. I think I've tracked it down to it requiring Sun's jre6, which I don't have installed. I tried installing that, but there's no bin for my PPC processor. Am I right on this conclusion or am I wandering down the wrong path?
Yes, I know that I'm in an obscure group, running Ubuntu Linux on an old Mac Mini, but this is the first thing I've found that won't work because of it. Well, it won't do flash either, but I really don't care about that.
Any ideas for a work-around or a redirection to the right path would be appreciated.

Java for Ubuntu PPC
Hi Dave,
Have you checked out openjdk6-jre? I'm not sure if it's available for ppc, but if not for 8.04 then it might be for 8.10.
These sites have links to more technical information, if you are so inclined:
http://openjdk.java.net/
http://icedtea.classpath.org/wiki/Main_Page
Does your Mini have enough resources to run an x86 emulator, such as Qemu? That might be another alternative.
Regards,
-james.
Configuration trouble
Configuration option will not launch on my MacBook Pro running m5 (RC 1).

Hi,
i was looking around and saw this:

might help you solve the issue.

webDAV Issues
First, thanks for adding webDAV. You may remember that I was the requested the addition. It's been helpful to me.
1) just a reminder to anyone using this that webDAV can't work with spaces in the file name. webDAV uses HTTP commands (PUT, in this case) and spaces are not allowed. I tried this and the file was never uploaded. Looking at the error log on my server helped me learn this.
2) even when the files not uploaded (for example, item (1) ), you still get the 'file upload' success box. not sure why.
any comments would be appreciated.
Wayne Glover
Will be fixed ;-)
1) true
2) true - and I still don't know why
I hope I will fix it next version.
Can external configurations be used by your prograam
Hi, i have an external XML file that has information that duplicates some of the configuration needed for webdav. specifically, full URL, username and password.
On startup of webdav function, would your program be able to bring in this xml file, read it (knowing of course the element names it was looking for). and use this data.
the reason i want this is i only want config data in one location. i want to avoid errors.
i know this would not be an easy change and i would look to hire a programmer to make it happen. i thought you'd be the best person to know if it can be done.
thanks
Wayne Glover
can't get it to work.
i problem error when trying to upload to google and zoho says successful, but then can't find it in account. Any suggestions of what to do differently.
thanks,
nice comment
Excelent extension
It would be nice to have it also for writer documents, at least ability to reduce size of images. Than it would be extension No.1 for me. ankara nakliyat estetik burun estetigi
problem on OS X 10.5.3
I have installed beta 3 on a Leopard 10.5.3 system, with the latest version of the extension. I am using the Apple java 1.5.0_13. I have enable/disabled the extension, can see it but if I hit configure (or anything else), nothing happens, I don't get a dialog box for google.
It's because Java 1.5,
It's because Java 1.5, extension needs Java 6 :-(
Java 6
Thanks, that is what I figured, but if I put Java 6 on my mac, choose it for open office as a java engine, will the mac still use the apple java for all its needs so there are no further problems with the OS or other apps?
I don't know, probably you
I don't know, probably you may use differ Java for OpenOffice.org and differ for browser.
Compact the Toolbar
This isn't urgent or anything of the sort, but I just noticed that when you added the ability to upload/download via Zoho ( great addition by the way ), there are now 4 toolbar icons. I've been having problems with toolbar space to prevent another line of icons to be created and use up more window space. It took me a long time to organize everything and now I don't know how to make it fit because of the 2 additional icons. =/
I'm just asking if you could instead allow these accounts to be selected in a single window so that you may only need 2 icons of toolbar space once again. Either that or you make it possible to upload/download from the Tools > Add-Ons menu. =>
Things are going wrong
The 4 icons are unacceptable, especially as Zoho ones can't be removed. But it gets worse. In the beta 3 version of OO double clicking the extension fails to install (as does any of the other suggested methods). It was all going so well.
It works in beta 3
On my installation of OOo beta 3 and other installations which I know extension works well. If you noticed problem please create issue on extension page http://ooo2gd.googlecode.com with detail description of problem.
message received is: Problem: Bad Gateway
Have tried out this extension with my gmail account and it works fine for upload and download.
I really want to use it with my google apps account. It has worked fine for upload but when I attempt to download it gives message "Problem: Bad Gateway." This happens a couple of minutes after i click Get List (so I never get the list.)
Can you help?
Can I get error log?
Please install version 1.0.4, and when problem will occurs, go to Configuration window, click on Error Log, select text in Error Log [you will need to close Config Dialog to do it], go to http://ooo2gd.googlecode.com, choose Issues, create new issue and put this text from Error Log to issue description.
Without it I cannot determine where lies problem.
error log forwarded
Installed version is 1.0.4.
I've forwarded the error log as requested.
Thanks for your attention. This will be a really useful tool for me when its working...
Excelente!

Upload OK, download KO. Why?
Could anyone tell me why I can successfuly log in, upload .doc files, see the file names that I've uploaded, but as soon as I try to download a file I get the following message:
>Server Error
>Sorry, you've reached a login page for a domain that isn't using Google Apps. Please check the web address and try again.
I am using xUbuntu 7.10, OOO 2.4, JRE 1.6.0_04
Thanx
Are you using GMAIL account
Are you using GMAIL account or Google Apps account? For now if provided account name is in form mail@domain.com OOo2GD assums that this account is used in Google Apps. [this may also provides to bug when we use user@gmail.com] This problem should be fixed in version 0.9.6.
Great Extension, Works.
This extension does exactly what it is supposed to - hooks into Google Docs and allows you to upload/download files from/to Google Docs in a second and utilize within OpenOffice. It would be nice if it had an auto-synchronization feature and created versioning on the Google Docs size - but for now it does what it says.
Cannot import
I noticed that there were recent Java and OO.org updates (April 2008 - versions 5 and 2.4 respectively) and I'm not sure if those have anything to do with my problem:
I was able to import from GDocs once and then I switched my Java 6 version from 3 to 5 in the OO Tools>Options via these instructions http://docs.google.com/TeamPresent?fs=true&docid=ajg23wkfz9qn_449gt2kn8&... and then I could no longer import. What occurs is that I can 'Get list' from the Google Account but nothing occurs when I click 'Open'. Export works fine. I also cannot see Google Docs menu or Toolbar buttons (nor can add button) but there is a Google Docs item in the 'File' menu; I have also referenced http://code.google.com/p/ooo2gd/wiki/KnownIssues
Amazing extension however, very nice work! I voted for the GDocs updating thing :D - I have no problem copying and pasting for the meantime, cheers!
I cant compute?
"to Google Docs from OpenOffice.org, and from OpenOffice.org to Google Docs"
Isnt that quite the same?
You're right, my mistake
You're right, my mistake :-)
I will change this.
Replaces documents in GD rather than Syncs them?
Unfortunately I'm having trouble with it on XP. I've been uploading my documents repeatedly as I work on them, and instead of replacing the document since it has the same name, I have three copies of the same file in Google docs. Even worse all three of them are copies of the original one I uploaded without the changes I made to the document over time. This plug in shows promise, but make sure you back-up your documents to your hard drive.

Updating is still not supported by Google Docs
Google Docs doesn't support updating, it's on issue list to gdata. You may vote for this issue at http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues/issues/detail?id=277
I'm not sure of this issue with 3 identical copies, indeed it should be 3 copies but, from version 0.5 or something like this if you want to upload document which was modified OOo2GD shows prompt and asks if it should save document before upload, or it should upload last version form disk.
Unable to enable GDocs.jar
Just an FYI:
I have found that even though you are running Java 1.6 SE, there is a scenario where you are cannot enable the GDocs.jar, even though Addons.xcu and ProtocolHandler.xcu are enabled. For some reason, when I added this extension, it threw it under "My Extensions" within OpenOffice's Extension Manager. My "fix" was to manually remove the extension and re-added it under "OpenOffice.org Extensions". In doing so, I was able to Enable GDocs.jar without any errors.
Not all docs visible?
This is a great extension, thanks for building it.
One question: when I logon to Google Docs via the browser, I get a list of all docs, whether created by me or shared by someone else.
The extension only gives me access to the docs I uploaded myself. Would it be possible to view all docs?
Thanks
Truly I don't know, I must
Truly I don't know, I must to check it :-)
No proxy support
Hi!
I tried using the extension behind a company firewall. All http traffic is routed through a proxy. I could not find any place to specify a proxy. Is this supported or if not a planned feature?
Since this extension is using java, where would be the spot in the extension files, in which the java app is called? I could then insert my proxy digits manually into the code...
Cheers
Juergen
No downloading of files
I'm trying to use this extension on Open Office 2.3.1 in Ubuntu 7.10. Our company has a domain with Google Apps. When I upload files, my login as username@mydomain.com plus password is accepted, and the upload works. However, while I can download the list of files via 'Get List' using the same credentials, clicking on 'Open' after marking a file in the list opens Firefox and the Google Docs login page (which does not accept an Apps login) instead of downloading and opening the file.
What I probably should have mentioned: we're using the German version of Google Apps.
Feature request
Great ext!
But i would like it to just update a file previously uploaded instead of upload it again.
Thanks.
For now Google Documents
For now Google Documents List API doesn't support this :-( But I propose to vote for adding this by starring this issue: http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues/issues/detail?id=277
am i missing something?
i installed the extension
i hit the 'Google Docs | Import from Google Docs' menu
Google User Name: have tried 'username' and 'username@gmail.com'
Google Password: ********
clicked 'Get List'
machine seems to try to connect, and then nothing. no errors, no docs.
support Aggogle Apps ?
The "user credentials" appears to assume the standard Google Docs login. However, users of Google Docs as part of a Google Apps site, use a slightly different URL to log-in. For example, a "docs user" uses "docs.google.com" whereas an "apps user" uses "docs.my-domain.com".
Would it be possible to support Google Docs within Google Apps ?
I'm not familiar with the inner working of an OO add-on so this may be easy or not. My guess is only the configurable URL would need to be added.
Unable to import spreadsheets
Hi,
I just installed this extension today. When I wanted to import my documents from Google Docs, it only found my documents - Not my spreadsheets.
Does anyone know why? And what could the solution be so that I can import my spreadsheets as well?
Thanks in advance.
Schindler
Google Docs desn't support it yet
Google Docs doesn't support yet downloading of spreadsheets in one GET request.... as a result of this for now only "text" documents can be imported from Google Docs to OOo by OOo2GD.
Okay, but do you have any
Okay, but do you have any idea if it will be possible at some point?
It already does
All you have to do is use your full login ID. username@domain.com
I tried it this morning and it worked great.
Thanks
I thought I tried user@domain.com but must have made an error. Just tried it again and it works perfectly.
Automatic down/upload
Is there a way to make this all work automatically in the background?
Can't see some documents
Hello, when i try to use the import command, I only see documents that I have hidden in google docs. Is there a way to see my unhidden documents? Also is there a way to see different folders?
"Could not create Java implementation loader" error
Have loaded this extension but it refuses to run.
When I try to enable it from the Extension Manager I get the following error.
"Could not create Java implementation loader"
I am running on PCLinuxOS and with;
java -version
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode)

.ods not uploading
This works great! I don't use google docs for editing, but it is a great way to get documents from computer to computer. My only concern is that this doesn't like to upload .ods documents. I have tried .doc .odt and .xls and those work fine, just not .ods. It pops up with an error: "Problem: Bad Request." any help?
