NOTE ON HOTKEYS
To bind hotkeys to styles, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Tools → Customize → Keyboard.
  2. In the “Category” box, scroll down to Styles, and click the plus sign. Select Paragraph.
  3. All styles will be visible in the “Function” box, but the necessary styles are Action, Character name, Parenthetical, Scene heading, SHOT and TRANSITION (Other styles can be bound, but mostly this is not necessary. For instance, Character name is automatically followed by the Dialog style).
  4. Now select the shortcut key in the “Shortcut keys” box that you want to assign a style to (i.e. Ctrl + 1), then select the style you want to assign (i.e. Scene heading) and click “Modify”.
  5. My shortcuts are: (these replace headings 1-5 which I don't need. If you prefer to keep these intact, feel free to choose whatever shortcut suits you best)
    • Ctrl + 1: Scene Heading
    • Ctrl + 2: Action
    • Ctrl + 3: Character name
    • Ctrl + 4: Parenthetical
    • Ctrl + 5: Shot
    • Ctrl + 6: Transition

NOTE ON WORD COMPLETION
I believe this is enabled by default. Word completion could be considered handy, for instance when you want to avoid such tedious tasks like typing a character's name over and over again. To turn on word completion:

  1. Go to Tools → AutoCorrect Options → Word Completion tab
  2. Tick “Enable Word completion”

Binding hotkeys to styles

...is unnecessary, if the Text body and Heading 1-5 styles are used, like this: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/scr5
