PresiConsole_150.jpg

The Presenter Console Extension provides more control over your slide show presentation, such as the ability to see the upcoming slide, the slide notes, and a presentation timer whereas the audience see only the current slide.
To avoid confusions by displaying a large number of presentation elements, the Presenter Console displays the elements on three different easily changeable views.

  • The first view displays the current slide, including the effects and the upcoming slide
  • The second view the speaker's notes in large, clear and scalable type plus the current and upcoming slide.
  • and a slide sorter view with the slide thumbnails on the third view.

You will easily love this Extension it helps you to drive your presentation smoothly, especially the notes view which keeps you away from paper notes.

Please note that the Presenter Console works only on an operating system that supports multiple displays.

documentation ?

Is there any documentation on the web ? I tried the extension and I got a blank screen on my pc and the full screen of my pc on the presentation screen for the audience. A great hit. Afterwards no way to make the mess running.

Broken in v3.1?

Hi, this is a great add-in! But after upgrading to Impress 3.1 it does not seem to work any more. I did grab the latest version but it does not seem work work at all.

/Greg

In Ubuntu 9.10 and OOv3.1 the console works fine

Hi Greg, first i made installation with package from this site, but with no function. Then i try to find it via ubuntus repository. I found it there and it works great after installation. This is the best extension for openoffice ever. Great job. Many thanks to the developers.

Adding a pointer?

First of all: a great tool!! I'm a teacher and using the presenter since about 6 months on Linux with *no* problems.

May be one enhancements would help all users: I'd like to see the mouse pointer over the slide on the control view while it is also visible to the audience on the presentation display. This would avoid turning the face to the screen while talking.

A nice idea would also be to add some special behavior at the pointer of the presentation display. May be some intertia which makes its movement smoother, or simple effects like sliding etc.

Thanks again for your valuable work!!

GREAT PLUGIN! EVEN BETTER IF LIVE EDITING INCLUDED

Live editing are very important as some time we only received at that time and might found some mistake.
How nice IF Live Editing come to rescue.....

I have missed this the last 10 years

Brilliant. Great stuff. Well done :-)
I just decided to retire MS Office

Problems With Laptop

Hey Guys
Great start and a lot of potential!!! Works great on my desktop but alas it crashes when I start presentation on my laptop. I have 2nd screen plugged in and desktop extended to it but notes page won't load :-(
Would love to be able to get this to work...
Keep up the great work and hopefully it will work soon!!!
Cheers
Steve Griffiths :-)

Font on Notes display in Presenter Console

Is there a way to change the font on the Notes display in the Presenter? I see some sort of script font, while my Notes are formatted in Ariel in Impress. I'd prefer a plain font i.e. Verdana, which is easy to read on the screen.

btw I reported a crash with an earlier version, but 1.0.1 works well.

Changing fonts and language?

I also find the fonts showing up in the Notes View is too difficult to read. Is i t possible to change it? How?

Another issue:
One of the three special Norwegian letters I am using in my notes, is showing up with another letter in this view. I don't know if that is a problem with the fonts or the language-choice... The screen Interface is now only English. Is it possible to change the interface language to Norwegian, or does that require a full translation job first?

Anyway - this is a very useful extension, and I look forward to test it in a real preasentation setting...

Same here

Same here, I would like to change the console font.

It appears to load the first named font (on my PC, a font called Alba)

sorter too big in presenter mode

I just dowload it and tried it. it seems to propose exactly what I needed. I see two improvments to be done:
- a minimizable or maximizable presenter window (in order to get on your windows desktop during a presentation, without shorkey)
- More than 4 slides in the sorter view

fails to load Sun Presenter Console on OO3 on Ubuntu 8.10

I had the same problem with the pdfimport extension, and solved it using the hint from fastfret79 (with aptget from openoffice.org). It is possible to do the same with the PresenterScreeen?

Presenter screen / console on Linux

Hi,

I had the same problem with OOo3 and OpenSUSE 11.0 and found an excellent description to solve the problem.

OOo with presenter screen crashes on exit

Hi all,

I managed to install the presenter console (see my last post) on OpenSUSE 11.0 (KDE 4.1.3) newest updates.
A really great extension. Thanks to everyone who helped to make that possible!

The presenter console works really fine, until I exit presentation mode. In this case OOo crashes every time. This is a little bit annoying because the error message pop up at the presentation screen, not on my notebook screen. So everybody knows it. *grrr*

Has anyone the same problem or knows what to do? Where can I write a bug report?

Cheers,
Thomas

It works great!

I really like this extension. Although I have the same issue of it crashing on exit, I have been using for some time now, and the crashes have not been showstoppers. My version is 3.0.1 (Build:9379).

i cannot install linux version

Hi, I'm trying to install it on my Mandriva 2009 but I get this error:

Please provide a Mac OSX PPC version

I saw this great feature on somebody elses (Linux) laptop.
It's a pity that a Mac OSX PPC version does not exist.
Any chance that you will provide this soon??

Great feature!

Really a great feature!

The typical real estate salesman should be able to give a presentation now, using nothing but Open Office!

Being a teacher, I'd like to agree with the people here who suggested to add live editing, in an educational environment that's an absolute must have.

Another suggestion (which should be quite easy to implement, at least a whole lot easier than live edit, which I could definitely understand if the programmers didn't feel like doing):

It would be nice if the presenter view wouldn't force full-screen mode, a normal maximised window would be enough. While giving presentations, some people might like to start different programs (like an audio player, maybe their firefox to quickly look something up, their pim to look up an appointment and so on...)
The way it is, I'm forced to use the "windows-key" to do so, which is quite impractical.
To sum up, it would be really nice if one could use presenter view in maximised mode instead fo full screen and still have easy access to taskbar and start menu in windows.

All in all: Really nice work that new feature!

Cheers,
Peter

Necessary = Useful - Addendum

OK - Got it now.

This option completes this feature.

Under the options for Slideshow - is a selection field for which Monitor to display as the primary.

The option for "Which Monitor" is in the Slideshow options - e.g. - where you set timings etc. Is not in the most accessible or obvious place.

You have to keep in mind - being transient - A lot of 'Presenters' - often do not get to use their own equipment. Having OO3 on a usb is an alternative - if you have settings etc.

Very happy with this extension.
Thanks guys.

..................

Using vista - with OO3.

Needs a choice as to which is the primary vs secondary display (monitor).

OTSOP - Primary Monitor (screen) = is the one you are working from - reading timers/notes from - from where the Start Slideshow is pressed.

Secondary Monitor/Screen - is the Bigger screen shown to the audience. Usually starts with simple background only.

Scenario - working from laptop - read notes from laptop - display presentation on the big screen/monitor/display.

A custom options or question/msg box offering which to show the presentation on would be most helpful

Thx.

Problem when second screen not present

There seems to be a problem in OOo 3 final when the second screen is not present:

Under Windows OSes (XP and Vista have been observed) switching to notes view, sorting view etc. via tabs is not possible after showing the presentation. You have to close the document window and reopen in order to have acess to the views again.

For details see issue #94918 (http://de.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94918) in the issue tracker.

Mac OS X PPC?

What about a version for Mac OS X PPC?

I need a PPC version too

I have an iBook, please this extension can be very cool for my keynotes on the University.

Thanks.

Video echo and screen arrangement problems

This extension is one of the main reason that I switch to using OOo impress for my client presentations. However, the following problems need special attention.

1. When a video is embeded in a slide, the notes/next slide screen plays the video in parallel, but with a little time lag. This causes serious voice echo problem. I think this can either be solved by synchronizing the video playing (which may be more difficult), or merely disabling the video playing in the notes/next slide page.

2. Currently, I need to set the display mode to "external monitor (main) + my notebooks LCD display (extended)" to use the extension. However, this makes the impress window on the main screen on startup. In many circumstances, this would mean the need of turning myself to the main screen to find the button for presentation before I can do anything else (since the LCD screen will merely display my wallpaper until the notes appear in presentation mode). This is quite inconvenient. If the display can be swap so that the impress main window will remain on my LCD display, and then project the slide on the main screen in presentation mode, the extension will be more user-friendly.

Otherwise, the extension is excellent.

My primary use for Impress

My primary use for Impress is teaching firefighting/rescue/EMS classes, and these often have embedded video. The Video echo problem makes this almost unusable for my purposes. Otherwise, it is a very nice addition.

Does anyone know if a bug has been filed for this video problem? I searched Issuezilla but couldn't find anything, but I'm not even sure if that is where bug reports for this addon go.

Again: 1.0.1-Linuxx86-64 needs change to description.xml

Same problem as dberkholz: "I had to unpack the 1.0.1-Linuxx86-64 extension and edit description.xml to change two instances of x86 to x86_64 before it would install."
Afterwards, it worked as expected.

Again: Again: 1.0.1-Linuxx86-64 needs change to description.xml

After messing around on and off for a couple weeks trying to this this to work, I finally stumbled on dberkholz's note about this and managed to get the presenter installed. It would great if this could be fixed in the distributed version. I can't imagine it installs correctly on *ANY* linux 64bit setup as is? And the OO/unopkg error message is completely opaque!

Awesome!!!

Works on OpenOffice v3 RC3 (m8) on my Mac OSX 10.5.5. At first the presenter console was in the wrong monitor (i.e. displayed through projector). After a while, I was able to figure out the issue....To fix this, go to Slide Show -> Slide Show Settings... and then under 'Multiple Monitors' set the Presentation Monitor to Monitor 2.

Enjoy!!

Now, if I could only get the pretty transitions that Keynote has, I may use this instead of Keynote! :)

Slides View

The Slides View would be much more useful if it tracked the current slide
Also, it would be good to see two or three 'next slides' on the regular
(current slide / next slide) view

Can't get it to work..

Maybe I'm dense... I'm on a Mac (Intel cpu) running OOO 3.0.0 (00030m7 Build:9354) and I can't get the extension to come up under any of the menus. It does show up under Tools > Extension Manager and no where else.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Can't get it to work either

Just like dkrenik, I can't get this to work.
I have browsed through all the menus but find no setting, button or anything related to the Presenter Console.

Starting a presentation (F5) starts in the default mode, no Presenter Console anywhere.

I have two screens connected and working. I run Win XP, fully updated with OO 3, latest beta.

A good start towards solving this problem would be a plain, brief instruction here on how to start the Presenter Console!

update:
on this page ( http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/announcing_the_sun_presenter_console ) it says that the Presenter should display automatically if it detects two connected screens. As I said, it does not work in my case.
I also don't understand why I can't
(1) testdrive it on just one screen
(2) opt to NOT use it on two screens
It seems like bad design to not let the user toggle it on/off manually in some easy way.

update 2:
Here is another user who seems to have the same basic problem:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&p=46210

Two screens is not enough

To be able to use this extension, you must have two screens, but also that both screens are independent and don't show the same thing.
On WinXP, ask for properties of the desktop, Parameters tab, click on the second screen and check "Extend desktop to this screen" (or something with the same sense (I'm working in French environment)) ; choose the correct resolution. Then what is shown on the main screen is different from what is shown on the second screen.
According to parameters chosen in Impress (Slide show > Parameters of slide show > Multiple screens : choose screen for slide show), console will appear on main screen or second screen and slide show on the other screen.

One more requirement

Also, in what I would consider a bug, you need to have both displays active and set up as you describe when you start Impress.

This means that if you're working on a the slides just before your presentation, go to the room, and plug into the projector, you also need to restart Impress before it will work.

(Incidentally, if you start it with multiple displays, switch to a single display, view slide show, then switch back to multiple displays, the presenter console will not show up again until you restart.)

That was not the problem. Anyway, works in OO3 rc3+

That was not the problem. I had two screens connected and was using "extend desktop" (not clone). It still did not work.

Anyway, it works OO3 rc3 and later so I suggest that anyone with similar problems to just update to that.

Unable to change view type

Hello,

This is a great extension. There is however a small bug on my OOo300_rc2 (was here previously) WinXPSP3.
When extension is activated, but only one screen is used (which occurs often because there is not always a second screen or a video projector plugged to the computer) :
- open a file
- launch slide show
- stop slide show
=> it is no more possible to change view type (Normal/Plan/Notes/Prospectus/Slides sorter)* : tab is highlighted but view does not change.

An easy workaround is to activate this extension only when a second screen is used.

Thanks for your consideration.

* These may be not exact terms as I used a French version.

1.0.1 Linuxx86-64 needs change to description.xml

I had to unpack the 1.0.1-Linuxx86-64 extension and edit description.xml to change two instances of x86 to x86_64 before it would install. The shared library was properly build for 64-bit, though.

Slide Sorter View

I like the Slide Sorter view but am limited to a 1024/768 resolution (an older laptop) on the presenter monitor and would like to be able to see at least 2 rows of 3 thumbnails of screens at this resolution so that I can easily skip back and forth between slides. Presently I can only see 4 slides at a time at this resolution.

It would also be great if the presenter view had settings so that it could be started in the slide sorter view.

Test with ATI Mobility Radeon 9700/64MB on openSuSE 10.3-i386

It works on my Laptop with the above configuration and the current ati-catalyst-driver. One little problem: the presentation on the second monitor is to near the bottom of the screen. I get a border above the presented slide.

reset timer

I'd love to see a reset button next to the timer. Sometimes you just leave the first slide on without starting the presentation...
I'd also like to have a way to change the font of the notes displayed on the presenter screen.

Other then that, this extension is great and works well on OOo 3 beta 2

Working on OOO300_m4

Pleased to report that it is working on OOO300_m4.

Richard

Using on new builds

I have been trying to use the presenter console on builds since m28 up to OOO300_m3, and it has not worked on any of them. On m3 it causes serious problems with OpenOffice, culminating in error report to Microsoft.

Should it be working on these builds? If so, what should I look for to analyse my problem?

Richard

Live Slide Show Editing

Good job on the presenter console extention. There are a few things I would have liked to see implemented a little differently, but overall, a very good release!

One item that I would still very much like to see (which is not directly linked to the presenter console) is the ability to bring back live editing. (see http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=64670) I know that the live editing feature is not needed by many of your users, but it would be very benificial to many other users! There are many conference or Church type settings where it is very much beneficial (hugely beneficial!) to be able to edit (and even ADD new) slides to your presentation while in the middle of a presenation.

Keep up the good work! (and keep it comming!!!)

another suggestion

It would be great if you could force use of the presentation manager, even if there is no secondary screen. This is very useful for practicing the talk even with no external monitor... Thanks!

Extension does not work with DEV300_m26

Hello,

I'm disappointed because Presenter console does not work on my DEV300_m26 under WinXP. When launching presentation, it is shown on second screen, but first screen keeps its previous aspect. Moreover, the first screen is blocked : every click is counted for the presentation show.

I hope Presenter console will come back soon.

some suggestions

Hi, great extension, thank you!

Two small suggestions so far....

It's inconvenient when the notes are longer than the area on the screen, and you have to shrink the text. Instead, I think the text should automatically shrink to fit.

It should be possible to pause or reset the timer, perhaps just by clicking on it.

Thanks!

i just love it

great functionality and amazing modern classic look! a big compliment for the designer and the programmer .. software has too look and work like this.

Video disturbs console

Really great stuff !
If a video is inserted in a slide, the video is shown on both console and presentation screen. It would not be so disturbing if the sound was not slightly shifted, making an awful echo.
DEV300_m21 and Presenter Console 0.9.0

Presenter Console Extension

Great feature... The only major problem I see is the size of the "Current Slide" (It's very hard to read) It would be nice if the sizes could be manually set... Also, having the option to show, or not to show, the slides effects would be nice too. :)

Remote slide changer

Excellent stuff. Looks great at this early stage. Biggest downside right now is that my remote slide changer doesn't work when the presenter mode is switched on. KDE and XFCE on OpenSuSE 10.3
